Following on from her feature debut Diva, Anna Biller directed, wrote, produced, scored and created all of the sets and costumes for her next film, The Love Witch. As that title suggests, Elaine (Samantha Robinson) is a witch who uses magic potions and spells to make men fall madly in love with her, and usually with death on the cards. Inspired in part by the films of Douglas Sirk, and with a score reminiscent of Morricone’s compositions for Argento’s earlier work, The Love Witch is both a homage to 1960s technicolor melodramas and 1970s schlock horror with a feminist spin.
