Yes, community cinema is Staying Alive, and we’re going back to 1959 California with the fantastic and ground-breaking musical drama Grease. Directed by Randal Kleiser this 1978 film starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. It tells the story of Danny and Sandy who fall in love at the beach, only to find themselves very much at odds, at the same high school, with Danny the leader of the notorious T Birds greaser gang and wholesome Sandy hanging out with the well-intentioned Pink Ladies. A rocky road lies ahead as each tries to emulate the other. Fun all the way and made all the more so because local group the Pop Up Singers will be entertaining before the film. Yes, Grease is the one that we want, chosen because our demographic loves a bit of nostalgia and, well, it’s a great film that deserves to be shown again… and again. Grease, We’re Hopelessly Devoted to You.
