Now in its 5th year, Scalarama seeks to fill the land with cinemas every September.
From film clubs to film festivals, fleapits to picture palaces, pop up cinemas to long established arthouses - all unite each year to celebrate the joy of watching films together. Wherever you are – if there is a film and an audience, there is cinema. And if you cannot find your cinema, start it!
Scalarama was first inspired by London’s Scala Cinema (1979-1993) and then by the passion of exhibitors of all shapes and sizes across the UK who carry the light of cinema for future generations. Growing each year, Scalarama now includes over 250 different organisations putting on events under the banner. Along the way, Scalarama has brought back Odorama, created a free nationwide newspaper, worked with ScreeningFilm.com to map cinema events, created a short film advent calendar, inspired new film initiatives with free workshops entitled I Want To Be A Cinema and created the annual Home Cinema Day.
