DESCRIPTION:In The Lesson\, school teacher Nadezhda (Margita Gosheva) struggles against the odds to keep her home\, her family and her integrity intact. An act of theft in her classroom is just the beginning of an escalating series of challenges\, as Nadezhda faces financial precarity at home that sees her seek ever more risky solutions. The ethical questions that The Lesson poses are realised with a deft naturalism of performance and rhythm that draws you in and holds you throughout. \n“Writer/directors Grozeva and Valchanov keep the pace swift and the tension high in this utterly absorbing and thought-provoking drama.” – Screen Machine team \nWe know that some of our audiences want to see a broader range of films\, so\, alongside our usual programme\, between August – October this year we’re bringing six different films to six different locations. Each film has been chosen specially by one of six members from the Screen Machine team. This is an outstanding selection of international titles spanning decades\, a variety of genres and innovative filmmaking styles. We’ve delved deep into our fondest memories of cinema-going to choose films that inspire\, challenge and entertain. These are films we love – we hope you’ll love them too. \nAll films with English subtitles. Screen Machine has wheelchair access.
