DESCRIPTION:Why 1968?\n1968 was a year that practically ripped up American culture – Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy were assassinated within days of each other\, Andy Warhol was shot by a radical feminist and Star Trek shocked the world with American television’s first interracial kiss. \nYoung men forcibly recruited for the Vietnam war burned their draft cards in public protests and people rioted in the streets over King’s murder. \nColumbia University was occupied by students angry at corruption and racist policies\, the Democratic Convention in Chicago erupted into violence and Hippies and Yippies held ‘be-ins’ all over the country. \nAt the Mexico Olympics\, American athletes  Tommie Smith & John Carlos gave ‘Black Power’ salutes\, Night of the Living Dead premiered at the Fulton Theater in Pittsburgh\, Hair the musical opened on Broadway and the first pictures of the whole of planet Earth were sent back from Apollo 8. \nAnd wherever you look\, from Paris to Prague\, from England to Japan\, from Spain to Senegal\, it can be said that 1968 was the year that the world caught fire. \nSince the 1st of May\, Leeds’ Film Fringe have been curating a programme of films that draw attention to how this incendiary year looked in film\, and now they invite you to a very special 1968 party to celebrate the start of the annual\, unconventional\, non-conformist and counter-cultural celebration of film that is SCALARAMA! \nLet’s party like it’s 1968!\nBRUDENELL SOCIAL CLUB\nCommunity Room\n33 Queen’s Rd\, Leeds LS6 1NY \n  \nFREE ENTRY \nDoors 7.30pm\nLive Music at 8.15pm\nFilm at 9pm (runing time 94 minutes)\nEnds 11pm \n  \nMore details TBC…….
