DESCRIPTION:Scalarama festival is coming back to Bristol in September and we thought this would be a great opportunity to introduce you to the festival as well as reminding previous contributors of how it all works in the I Want to be a Cinema Workshop! \nThe I Want to be a Cinema Workshop is geared towards newcomers with an interest in putting on a screening with Scalarama in September\, but all are welcome to attend. \nLearn what Scalarama is and what it’s about\, find out how to put on a screening and what that entails and of course\, come along to meet fellow film lovers in the Bristol area\, including the coordinators of this year’s festival! \nWe’re looking to give newcomers an introduction to the festival\, where they can ask all sorts of questions about the process and even workshop some ideas if they want. So if you’re reading this and you’re interested\, share it amongst your friends and get the word out. Scalarama’s all about community\, so the more people we get involved\, the bigger and better the festival! \nThis meeting is taking place in the upstairs function room at The Drawbridge pub in the city centre by the Hippodrome. Free entry but by all means grab a pint while you’re here. Meeting starts at 7:00pm but we’ll be around from 6:30ish. \nSo share this all over the place and let’s fill the land with cinemas!

The plan is to cycle the locations of these meet-ups between key Scalarama venues across Glasgow (e.g. last month’s Scalarama: I Want To Be A Cinema (GSFF17) was at CCA and the next will hopefully be somewhere South). The Hairdressers is one of the few Glasgow venues that can and has easily/successfully facilitated DIY screenings in the past and continues to do so\, and that’s why it’s been chosen for this meeting. DESCRIPTION:Scalarama is an annual festival of independent cinema that takes place for the whole month of September. People from across the city come together to put all kinds of films on in venues of all shapes and sizes. \nWould you like to know more? Come along to one of our meetings and get involved! \nThis month we’re holding a special screening at Heart as part of their ongoing film and music programme\, with a Scalarama meeting beforehand startnig 6pm – all welcome. At this meeting we will go over some of the basics of organising and marketing a film screening.  \nWendy Cook from The Hyde Park Picture House will give a short presentation on what to do to turn a screening into an event that will engage the audience and get your film noticed. \nThen Alice Miller from Film Fringe will run through the basics of planning and running an event using dvd or blu-ray formats\, and explain how they approach to organising screenings in pop-up venues. \nThere will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and share screening tips. \nAt 8pm we have the Leeds premiere of a new film – to be announced soon! \nHeadingley HEART centre is a community venue and this event is being organised by volunteers on behalf of Scalarama to promote the showing of film in all kinds of venues.  \nA donation to HEART would be nice\, so there will be a PAYF collection on the door.

DESCRIPTION:Scalarama is an annual celebration of independent film screenings\, film clubs\, plus weird and wonderful DIY cinema nights. It takes place nationally (and internationally) every year throughout September. With homages to the midnight B-movies of Scala Cinema’s heydey to cult\, classic\, contemporary\, international and local films\, you’ll find it all during Scalarama.  \nJoin us for the opening party where you can find out about all the film screenings Nottingham film clubs are putting together for this year’s festival including many outdoor and kooky screenings. We will also be screening short films on a showreel including the work of local\, national and international filmmakers.  \nIf you’re interested in putting on film nights yourself\, do come chat with us. Hot on the trail\, El Hombre Incredible heads to the dark heart of the Amazon\, where evil scientist Humanon is using brain transplant technology to create a race of cyclops werewolf hybrids powered by superior human brains. Now he wants Kaliman’s brain!  \nUsing his powers of telepathy\, Kaliman and sidekick Solin do what they must to destroy the demented Humanon who looks like a blood red KKK grand wizard in dark glasses and laughs hysterically after bellowing details of his evil plans. \nProtected by his micro-chip controlled lion roaring “zombie-tronics”\, a weasel like sadistic slave driver and a vanishing dwarf (we are NOT making this up!)\, Humanon is going to be a tough nut to crack.  \nWill Kaliman save the day? \nThis cinematic outing for the popular Mexican comic book superhero features retro sci-fi laboratories\, telepathic severed heads\, crazy sound effects\, lurid costumes\, bad dialogue\, kung-fu chopping fights\, veiled femininity and bare chested machismo. We love it! \nThe main feature will be supported by a programme of insane Mexican film trailers and a crazy Super 8mm horror short.
