SUMMARY:Across The Universe (2007)
DESCRIPTION:To echo the restoration of Yellow Submarine (1968) earlier this June\, there is more of The Beatles coming to Edinburgh in September! Curious Cat | Cinema Club is making its opening party with Across the Universe (2007) – a magical mystery party you won’t wanna miss!  Featuring 33 Beatles compositions\, Across the Universe  is one of the most polarising musicals ever made. The urban legend says Paul McCartney loved it. >Curious Cat< undoubtedly does and invites you all for a sing-along\, heaps of colour\, explosive strawberries\, rock’n’roll frenzy and an unforgettable psychedelic dream. Bring all the love you can carry – because love is all you need. \n!¡!BYOB!¡!  \n*a small corkage fee may apply on the premises \nTickets on the door – CASH only! \nAcross The Universe is a fictional love story set in the 1960s amid the turbulent years of anti-war protest\, the struggle for free speech and civil rights\, mind exploration and rock and roll. At once gritty\, whimsical and highly theatrical\, the story moves from high schools and universities in Massachusetts\, Princeton and Ohio to the Lower East Side of Manhattan\, the Detroit riots\, Vietnam and the dockyards of Liverpool. A combination of live action and animation\, the film is paired with many songs by The Beatles that defined the time. \n  \n\n

SUMMARY:A Hard Day's Night (1964)
DESCRIPTION:To echo the restoration of Yellow Submarine (1968) earlier this June\, there is more of The Beatles coming to Edinburgh this September! A Hard Day’s Night (1964) to start with on Friday 21st: to see where it all began\, to get ourselves into the pure black and white mischief and celebrate life! \nThe Beatles in their feature film debut\, one of the greatest rock-and-roll comedy adventures ever. The film takes on the just-left-of-reality style of mock-documentary\, following “a day in the life” of John\, Paul\, George\, and Ringo as fame takes them by storm. \nThis screening will also mark the beginning of Curious Cat | Cinema Club\, a small new independent film club in Haymarket\, an odd cinephile’s bunker\, a cosy retreat for those who share a passion for earthly\, atmospheric and visually bewitching cinema that never fails to surprise. \nTickets on the door – CASH only!

SUMMARY:Atmosphere | A Zed & Two Noughts
DESCRIPTION:Peter Greenaway’s visually stunning 1985 film was the first with his “most important collaborator” cinematographer Sacha Vierny. A story of twin zoologists Oswald and Oliver Deuce who\, after losing their wives in a freak car collision with a swan outside the zoo where they work\, develop a curious attachment to the car’s driver Alba\, who survived. \nDeveloped in collaboration with DCN Design Fellow Susana Cámara Leret\, this is our first Atmosphere event in the Alt-w LAB and our first as part of Scalarama. Punctuated by the dulcet tones of Sir David Attenborough and the influence of Johannes Vermeer\, the film is a rumination on life\, love and sex and the inevitability of birth\, death and decay.

SUMMARY:Scalarama Edinburgh CLOSING Party!
DESCRIPTION:Back at our cosy Summerhall lair and pleasantly tired after 6 months worth of preparation\, we will be bringing Scalarama Edinburgh ’17 to its grand finale – you must be there to celebrate with us! It will be your chance to pour out all the compliments to our curators\, optionally paired with some bits of useful observations and advice for the next round in 2018. Let us know what you thought – we will listen with trepidation! \n  \nThe party will follow the double-bill screening of two cracking [black] comedies from spontaneous Italy and troubled Francoist Spain of the 60’s → https://scalarama.com/event/il-sorpasso-1962-el-verdugo-1963/ . Hopefully\, with the bellies tired of giggles and mouthes still conveniently open with awe\, we will find comfort in drinks and each other at 10.30pm within a radius of the Royal Dick Bar. \n  \nLet the beer run wild now and we shall see you next year! \nIeva and the Scalarama Edinburgh team

SUMMARY:Scalarama Edinburgh meeting #2
DESCRIPTION:So this is the creepiest picture I managed to find of the venue we are having our next meeting at:) You will have to enter Summerhall\, proudly march right past the reception to the back door\, find yourselves in the courtyard and see this beauty in front of you. It will be the room that’s on your immediate *right* once you step into this haunted house in the picture above. \nShare far and wide\, maybe we’ll manage to lure another couple of shy ones to the Scalarama side 😉 Looking forward to seeing you all\, bring along laughs and ideas. We will most likely dedicate the meeting to discuss the results of our month-long venue scouting\, film selections\, and whatever may come up after a couple of beers\, which I hope will be licencing\, film licencing. \n🙂 see you there. \n***\nOh\, and for those who missed the first meeting and may be wondering what exactly this Scalarama beast is – here’s the\nBRIEF: \nScalarama is a month-long celebration of cinema that takes place in cinema and non-cinema venues each September across the UK.
