DESCRIPTION:A special Scalarama + Thought Bubble screening of the 1994 documentary Crumb by Terry Zwigoff. \n\nThe master of the misfit film\, Zwigoff creates a fascinating and intimate portrait of one of America’s most iconic\, innovative and prolific underground cartoonists\, Robert Crumb.\n\n\n\n\n\nCrumb’s notorious career began in 1968 with the publication of the first issue of Zap comix in San Francisco. He is an iconoclastic figure\, notorious curmudgeon and  self-confessed sexual deviant; his work has regularly provoked outrage from feminists but he claims he was just ‘born weird’. \n\n\n\nThis surprisingly confessional documentary was made over the course of 9 years\, with the participation of Robert’s cartoonist wife\, Aline\, and members of his dysfunctional family. Growing up\, the three reclusive Crumb brothers shared a private fantasy world of comics and art\, which shielded them from bullying and a violent home life. \n\nThe resulting film is an extraordinary exploration of the relationship between subculture\, mental illness and artistry.\n\n\n\nDoors are at 7.30 and there will be a short introduction before the film.
