Celebrated writer and performer Jessica Hynes (2012, W1A, Spaced) delivers a richly layered and uplifting drama for her debut feature as writer, director and star. Tina (Hynes) works as a carer of the elderly, contending with the responsibility of three children, a supportive but strained relationship with her husband and a highly anxious mother (Anita Dobson). Thrown into this mix is her eldest daughter’s bully whose mother, Tina has her own troubled history with. Boxing provides an outlet for the frustration of life’s pressures, and there Tina can begin to see a way of finding balance. Known for her considerable comedic talents, Hynes weaves these subtly into The Fight, revealing gradually the complexity of family life and the triumph of attempting to break free from old patterns.
“We related to this film strongly because it feels so authentic to family life. Each character experiences their own battle, and is portrayed with nuance and great depth of feeling, making The Fight a hugely satisfying experience.” – Screen Machine Team
