All That Jazz is a semi-autobiographical drama/fantasy film directed by Bob Fosse, starring Roy Scheider and Jessica Lange. It is a showbiz take on the road to death, born out of Fosse’s feelings of impending doom following a heart attack. It won the Cannes Film Festival Palme D’Or and several Academy Awards.
This screening will be followed by a post show discussion on power and exploitation in the dance and film world.
“The film … is an uproarious display of brilliance, nerve, dance, maudlin confessions, inside jokes and, especially, ego.” New York Times, 1979
“Sensational dancing and eye-popping production numbers punctuate the confessional reminiscences of arrogant, satirical theatrical eminence Joe Gideon as he flirts with Death.” Empire Online, 2000
