Fictions of Every Kind is Leeds’ longest running literary social. We aim to support anybody engaged in the lonely act of writing. Anybody is welcome at Fictions!
This month, as part of Scalarama Leeds, we present Fictions of Every Kind: At the Movies.
Bring your cinema-themed or screen-inspired stories to our writers open mic for your 5 minutes of fame (and yes, the five minutes is strictly enforced with our friendly bell). True stories, scripts, flash fiction, short fiction and extracts of longer work are all welcome. Sign up from 19.30 on the door.
Our invited speakers are Maureen Lennon and Laura Potts.
- MAUREEN LENNON is a graduate of Bristol University and she has just completed an MA in Writing for Performance and Publication at Leeds University. She is a West Yorkshire Playhouse FUSE writer and a co-founder of new writing company Bellow Theatre. She has written work for Paines Plough, Sheffield Theatres, Hull Truck, Assemble Fest and HeadsUp Festival.
- LAURA POTTS, a twice-named Foyle Young Poet of the Year, has been listed in The Oxford Brookes International Poetry Prize and nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She became one of the BBC’s New Voices in 2017 and received a commendation from The Poetry Society in 2018.
+ our Fictions of Every Kind House band will be interpreting an array of film soundtracks, in their own unique style.
